Trip 05: Day 13: St Lawrence to Tiaro

Thursday 07/01/2015
Nice peaceful morning lots of birds we were one of the last to leave.
Drove down to Rocky gees it was hot. Got frozen cokes at Maccas outside was 37°C.
Kept driving down to Tiaro arrived at 5.30pm. Well the site had no level spots left, grey nomads took them all. Bloke with the winnabago towing a suzuki kept starting his car? Maybe we were too close? First night where the TV coverage was crap. Dunnies were a cut lunch away and the bloke who finger painted in his own crap on the wall shouldnt give up his day job. The thousand toads hanging around kept Amanda and Amy from going to the toilet through the night. After a great trip it was a disapointing end. Maybe we should have kept going to Bauple. Its a lot cooler here than St Lawrence overnight.

Trip 05: Day 12: Homehill to St Lawrence

Wednesday 06/01/2016
After the fun last night we packed up and headed south. We were looking for a camp spot north of Mackay. We drove into Bowen and picked up morning tea from Joachim's pies. They were yummy. We ate them at Port Dennison looking over the water. We then drove to Horeshoe Bay which was packed. We had alook at Rose Bay then off to Woolies for supplies. Amanda drove to Proserpine where Les took over. We had a look at St Helens Beach but the generator noise and sandflies killed that location. We decided to head further south to St Lawrence. We drove through Mackay where we topped fuel up at a Caltex on the Bruce Highway. We said goodbye to Sarina and finally arrived at St Lawrence at 4.45pm. Its lovely here not too many nomads and enough room so you cant hear generators. Ryan and Les walked to the old railway bridge to scout a fishing spot but the tide was out. Usual fare of dinner, T20's and bed. A late arrival of some tourists in a tiny car made for a late night as they took a long time to set up right next to our van. Off to Rocky tomorrow.

Trip 05: Day 11: Mission Beach to Homehill

Tuesday 05/01/2016
Woke up and it was warm already. Some backpackers had already scarpered before Doug could get them. Handed the shower key and said goodbye to Doug. We drove through Cardwell and stopped at Ingham. Had a walk around town and enjoyed homemade cakes at the Majestic Cafe, they were very good. On the motorway ring rd through Townsville passed the Army base.
Drove onto Ayr gees it was hot, lunch at Subway and frozen cokes from Maccas then back to old Homehill. We got here after 3pm but it was still hot.
Lots more people here, noisy buggers in a white falcon station wagon with a passenger door that wont close banged the door all night. They finally left about 3am banging the door as they left.

Trip 05: Day 10: Another Tourist Day at Mission Beach

Monday 04/01/2016
Woke to a shower early this morning, Amanda closed up the windows till it passed. We then slept in except for Les. Had a nice breakfast outside the van then off to Innisfail. We topped up on fuel at Woolies at Wongarilla Beach. It wasnt far to Innisfail. Its an interesting town, full of colourful buildings and quiet spread out. We picked up a table from kmart, esky from BCF and Amy picked up a screensaver for her phone from the local version of Harvey Norman. We then headed to A/C and wifi (Maccas) and loaded pics to the blog. Then we came home for a late lunch. Ryan and Les tried fishing at the Clump Point boat ramp. Amy and Amanda looked around town and put a load of washing through. The park has filled up with backpackers sneaking in after dark buggers dont pay and try to get into the locked shower room. This is our last day North, start the slow journey home.

Trip 05: Day 09: Tourist Day Mission Beach

Sunday 03/01/2016
Got up and went for a nice walk along the beach. Had breakfast and then visited the popular markets next door where Amanda picked up some mangoes and lychees to replace the exploding watermelon. We then drove into Tully and had a look around. The IGA store was owned by relatives of one of my work colleagues. We then drove down to Tully heads where Ryan tried fishing at the boat ramp. A family coming back in on their boat kindly gave Ryan all their fresh bait. We came home had lunch and Ryan tried fishing out the front with a small mullet on a ganged hook rig. At 3pm Ryan and Les left Amanda and Amy under the trees on the beach and tried the boat ramp at Clump Point. Ryan picked up a black tipped shark. One of the locals not impressed with all the tourists muttered "i cant wait till february when i get this place back to myself". We had a nice feed of mackerel from the fish n chip shop. The chinese restaraunt has been closed for 2 years. We watched the T20 on the laptop on the caravan steps. For the first time it was raining in Brisbane not here!

Trip 05: Day 08: Townsville to Mission Beach: 0730 to 1100

Saturday 02/01/2016
Warm night, woke up early and packed quickly. Headed north, Amanda enjoyed the drive to Cardwell where Les took over. We arrived at the Council Caravan Park and we are set up right near the beach. Ryan got advice from Doug the caretaker to fish at the jetty and Doug invited him, he said you cant miss his tackle box.
We drove up to Bingal Bay and had a look around. At the Perry Harvey jetty we watched Doug and Barry back his tacklebox onto the jetty. It has a fridge (esky) with Queensland soft drink, radio, cd player, and a bbq and cutting board all on 4 wheels.
Doug showed Ryan where to fish and also supplied Ryan with bait. When "see you later alligator" came on the jukebox Dougs big rig with a mackerel head (caught earlier) went off heading to Cairns. Doug, Barry, Ryan and a few tourists took turns reeling in a 3 metre shark. Amanda and Amy visited Woolies at Wongaling Beach. We packed up fishing and headed back to the Caravan Park.
