Trip 2: Day 04: Dubbo to Gunnedah

Friday 05/04/2013: Dubbo to Gunnedah

The Homes family actually got up and left early! Amazingly we left at 07:50, 10 minutes earlier than Les expected. The Westview Caravan Park is a great place to stop at when visiting the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. The facilities are clean & tidy. The laundry costs $3 a load and $1 for every 20 minutes for the dryer. Les drove the first leg to a rest area just past Gilgandra, we let the vintage car driver who pulled in behind us know that he had lost his passengers side rear mud flap 2 km back. Amanda then drove onto Coonabarabran. We swapped drivers again at the Coonabarabran information centre after a pit stop and look at the Diprotodon skeleton from Tambar Springs. The Oxley Hwy is a relaxing beautiful drive over hills and the Liverpool plains. We arrived at the Koala Capital of the World at 11:19. We set up at the Showgrounds, which are great value at $12 a night for power and water on South St (Oxley Hwy) across from the Railway Siding Yards, . We visited the Information Centre and the young lady behind the counter was enthusiastic about the Town and what we could see in our short time here. Amanda drove up to Porcupine Lookout and then we did a lap of Conadilly St had a look at the Junior Cricket complex by the River. We picked up a few supplies at Coles and topped up the Diesel at the BP on Abbott St. Ryan fell asleep and the kids were too lazy to go and find a Koala. So in the Koala World Capital with Koala's all around us we never found one, they must have great camouflage.

            Of droughts and flooding rains.
