Saturday 06/04/2013: Gunnedah to Armidale.
Even after the children failing to wake up on time after struggling to get them out of bed, we managed to leave only 20 minutes late. Amanda took the first leg from Gunnedah to Tamworth. The road was fairly quiet and flat and we got to Tamworth in 50 minutes. We parked the van at the Information Centre and picked up brochures and maps and headed into Town. We walked along the river beside Kable Ave. We looked at the 'Country Music Hands of Fame' on the corner of Kable Ave and Bridge St. We walked back along Peel St and marvelled at the variety of shops - even a JB Hi-Fi and Aldi. The Town did not feel "countrified" to us, more like a Shopping Mall precinct.
Les drove to the Big Golden Guitar a couple of km's out of town on the road to Sydney. We parked round the back of the Hotel and snuck through KFC to get the photos. We then said Goodbye & a yodle-yay-hoo to Tamworth. The road to Armidale was very hilly - in fact there was a 1st Moonbi Hill and then a 2nd Moonbi Hill. The countryside changed to Granite boulders.
We passed through Uralla - looks like worth a look around this town next time we pass through.
Our cameraman fell asleep - but this didn't matter every 2nd photo is out of focus.
We found the Armidale showgrounds after completing a lap to find the gates! We set up next to the showgrounds car wash (picture to follow) and headed off to the Information Centre. We grabbed a handful of brochures and booked onto the Heritage Bus Tour. Les & Ryan walked around Town looking for the outdoor store - which was closed (most things close at 12md here on Sat). We settled for K-mart to get some fishing tackle. We have had early hot showers, the forecast is for 7 degrees overnight. The clocks change back to Qld time at 3AM tomorrow morning.
