Day 47: Cliff Head North to Pinnacle Caravan Park Cervantes.

Friday 10/08/2012 Day 47: Cliff Head North to Pinnacle Caravan Park Cervantes.

We slept in and packed slowly – this is a nice spot. We left at 09:08 and drove down the Indian Ocean Drive passing through Leeman, stopping at the IGA at Jurien Bay to get supplies and finally arriving at Cervantes. It was a tight squeeze to get the van in with a large tree in the middle of the unpowered area. We managed to get the van in our spot between the shade cloth’s on the ground (for the annexe’s). Ryan & Les set up the van and Amanda & Amy put several loads through the washing machine. Ryan & Amy explored the Beach. We had lunch and then drove off to Nambung National Park. The Pinnacles are unbelievable. There are so many. Amanda had fun driving round the 4km loop, dodging stray Pinnacles. We had a look at the Visitor’s centre, there are two theories on how the Pinnacles were formed, ask Amy or Ryan for this information. We then went to Lake Thetis to see the stromatolites. On the way back to the car, Amanda spotted a shingle back lizard (Tiliqua rugosa). Ryan tried on his Steve Irwin again and the lizard showed us his threat display. Hissing, showing a very nice “smurf” blue tongue. Amanda, Ryan & Amy scarpered, Les stayed to take a photo. We drove down to Thirsty Point and looked across to the Cervantes Islands. Ryan tried fishing off the Jetty and caught 2 blow fish. Amy finished reading “Holes” by Louis Sachar. Amy & Amanda walked along the beach while Ryan was fishing. No shells lots of seaweed. The wicked van next door has three European girls who are “merry” at the moment.
