Day 52: Perth Road Trip.

Wednesday 15/08/2012 Day 52: Perth Road Trip.

We all had a sleep in, as the rain fell. After the rain had stopped the grey skies remained. Amanda & Ryan picked up some laundry tokens, luckily we have access to a clothes dryer here. We fuelled up at a Woolworths Caltex at Forestfield and headed South on the Kwinana Freeway with Trains running down the middle. We drove through to Rockingham passed the refineries and onto the esplanade. We drove out to Point Peron, what a view. The old WWII gun emplacement “Peron Battery” used to contain 2 x 155mm, 2 x 18 pounder Mk IV guns. They had a great view of Garden Island, which now contains a submarine base and naval fleet. We had lunch near the boat ramp and then drove up the coast to Freemantle. We were going to Penguin Island but we are a couple of weeks too early. Amanda & Les enjoyed Freemantle. We utilised the Red & Blue CAT buses and had a good look around. We picked up Chocolate supplies at Freemantle Chocolate – highly recommended. We jumped in the car for the long drive to Cottesloe (8km). We didn’t realise how close the North Side was. We had a look at the sun dial, jetty, beach and cruised up and down Marine Pde. The houses here have a great view of the ocean. We then battled in peak hour traffic under the city on the Graham Farmer freeway, several other hwy’s Tonkin, Leach, Roe etc and arrived back at Advent Park. Good to see Brisbane is not the only city with Traffic Jams. We were fortunate to have perfect weather after the poor start to the day.
