Day 72: Tourist Day Port Augusta.

Tuesday 04/09/2012 Day 72: Tourist Day Port Augusta.

It was cool during the night and the wind became stronger after the sun came up. As forecast we had strong winds & dust all day. We did another load of laundry today and struggled to hang them on the clothes lines. We headed off to walk around Town. We did a lap and visited the Information Centre. The Port Augusta brochure listed some interesting lookouts. We visited the Wharf Esplanade & McLellan Lookout at the end of Edinburgh Terrace. We came home for lunch, rescued the laundry and headed off down Shack Rd. Shack Rd runs between homes on the Western side of Spencer Gulf and a Commonwealth Government Firing Range. These homes range from Fisherman Shacks to very large Homes. The road ends at the Blanche Harbour Marine Reserve. One house had three large water tanks under a huge array of solar panels. They have a nice view of the Northern Power Station We then visited the Arid Lands Botanic garden & the Water Tower Lookout. Topped up food supplies at Woolies. Ryan & Les tried fishing in the wind storm without success. We have loaded up on water in readiness for our next part of the trip. It is still very windy late evening.
