Tuesday 11/09/2012 Day 79: Tourist Day Yulara.
It was cool overnight 5 degrees C
in the van this morning. Today we visited Kata Tjuta & Uluru. We drove off
along the windy road to Kata Tjuta. We started at the Valley of the wind walk.
We managed to get to the 1st lookout and had a rest. We headed off
to the 2nd lookout and it got a little harder. We followed the
wallaby and made it to the view down the valley. We decided that it was hot
enough to forget the 7.4km loop. We returned back after 2 hours of walking on a
Grade 4 path. The views were outstanding. The rock is conglomerate which is
surprising when you get up close. We came home for lunch, caught up on laundry
and updated the blog whilst the sun was bashing the tourists who had started
the walks after 11:00. We headed off to Uluru at 15:00 and visited the viewing
areas before completing an anti-clockwise loop to complement yesterday’s
clockwise loop. The textures, colours and size only become apparent up close.
We completed the Mala walk to the Kantju Gorge. There was lots of Tourists climbing
the rock in defiance of the wishes of the traditional owners. We headed back,
topped fuel up at $2.15c/ltr ready for tomorrow’s drive.
Daily Stats: Distance: 186km, Duration: 6hrs15min, Weather:
