Day 82: Kings Canyon to Finke River Rest Area.

Friday 14/09/2012 Day 82: Kings Canyon to Finke River Rest Area.

Amy felt better this morning after a shower. The wind came up after sun up. The caravan park was emptying out as we packed up and left. We drove into the wind down Luritja Rd to Lasseters Hwy. We came round a bend and there were camels everywhere. Les hit the brakes and we stopped. The camels just looked at us. We drove slowly forward and the camels decided to get off the road. We turned left into Lasseter Hwy and through Mt Ebenezer where the only fuel pump is out of order. We stopped for lunch & fuel at the Erldunda Roadhouse. We headed off up the Stuart Hwy towards Alice. We passed the Desert Oaks Rest Area which was already packed with caravans. It appears there are new toilets there that are not in the Camp 6 Book. We continued on past the Erldunda & Seymour Ranges. We saw several red dust whirly winds. We arrived at the Rest Area and set up. There are only a couple of vans here next to the dry Finke River. Les & Ryan went exploring and found some petrified wood. It’s a little breezy and cooling down as the sun is disappearing.

Daily Stats: Distance: 359km, Duration: 4hrs50min, Weather: Sunny Windy/Mild Evening.
