Saturday 15/09/2012 Day 83: Finke River Rest Area to Alice
Springs.
It was cold overnight 3 degrees C
at 07:00. We packed up and drove up the Stuart Hwy. The drive passes some
spectacular scenery. We passed a camel farm, the cannonball memorial on our way
to Alice Springs. We arrived at the Gday Mate Tourist Park. We were met by Alan
who showed us to our site. He explained how the park works. The park is clean
& tidy. This is the first site we have been on where the van is perfectly
level. We set up had morning tea and then off to town. We parked and had a look
around Todd Mall. We grabbed some souvenirs and then lunch in the Woolworths
Shopping Centre. We walked to K-Mart & drove to Coles to pick up supplies.
We then played Tourist and visited the Alice Springs Reptile Centre. We spent 3
hours there. The variety of Reptiles is great. We enjoyed the Gecko Cave and
the Handling Demonstration. We all held “Blossom” the bearded dragon. We also enjoyed
patting Frank the Spencers Goanna. Ryan was brave enough to hold the large
olive python from Darwin Amy & Ryan held “Lockie” the Central Australian
blue-tongue lizard.
