Day 80: Yulara to Kings Canyon.

Wednesday 12/09/2012 Day 80: Yulara to Kings Canyon.

Amanda & Les got up early to watch the sunrise from the Ningarra lookout near the caravan. We managed to escape the dingos who had been howling since 04:00. The sun took it’s time and the rocks changed their colours. We spotted a rabbit and dingo. We packed up and headed off down the Lasseter Hwy towards the Kings Canyon turn-off. We passed the Mt Conner Lookout Rest Area where they were maintaining the long drops. We drove northwards and had a driver change at a Rest Area 160km out. Les took over driving and we passed the large George Gill Range (75km long) on the Eastern side of the Road. We arrived at the Kings Canyon Resort Campground and set up. It was 33 degrees C midday. We snoozed till 15:00. We warmed up on the 1hr Kings Creek walk and checked out the Canyon Rim Walk’s details for tomorrow. We went back to the Caravan Park where Amy & Ryan had a quick dip in the freezing pool. We watched the sun set on the range and as darkness fell the Dingo’s came out of the bush and started howling. We are resting and re-hydrating for tomorrows walk. It is 22 degrees C at 21:00.

Daily Stats: Distance: 312km, Duration: 3hrs40min, Weather: Sunny Hot Day/Mild Evening.
