Tuesday 03/07/2012 Day 9: Warloch Rest Area to Katherine
Gorge National Park.
We woke up amazed the toilets still had room in them. The
rest area had filled up overnight with caravans spilling over the truck rest
area. Had porridge in a cup! Our Jayco water pump has failed. I have had to
remove it and tape up the pipes. Every time we pump water it fills up the
cupboard. . Had the van packed in 15 minutes and left at 08:15. We drove with a
tail wind all the way today. We went into Mataranka, but the three busloads of
teenagers on tour, filled the pool to capacity. Amy gagged at the sight of all
that skin. Some tourists nearly swam in the river. We stopped at the Katherine
Information Centre and spoke to a nice girl “Amy” This was our first phone & internet coverage since
Mt Isa. My blue tick cheapo Telstra pre-paid is the only contact we have had.
Stocked up on groceries at Woolies had a quick brumbies lunch and tried to book
caravan parks in Darwin. A quick change of plans, caravan parks are full till
Friday. Amanda rang the Gorge and managed to get us in and on a tour for
Wednesday, amazing. We had fun picking a spot to park the Jayco Hawk amongst
the trees. Amanda & Amy went for a little walk down to the Katherine River.
Ryan tried catching a Barra and did. He caught a good size fish on a orange
lure as I lifted the fish out of the water the line broke at the lure and the
fish landed on the rocks. I went to get the fish but it fell back in the water
with the lure. We watched it swim off in the clear water. Later we heard it
across the river shaking its head. We will try again tomorrow to get the lure
back. We asked the other fishermen to look out for our lure. The teenagers on
tour (tots) have arrived here at the National Park.
